Instituto Vida Abundante

Alex & Laura Waits

The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly.  John 10:10

We are excited to announce the beginning of the dream becoming reality.   Several weeks ago, we broke ground on the first schoolroom for the future Reach Out Honduras school, Instituto Vida Abundante.

Vida Abundante means ‘Abundant Life.’   Named after the verse John 10:10 referenced above, these words speak to everything God has waiting for the students of Puerto Lempira.     There are ‘thieves’ everywhere, literal and figurative.  The thieves of drug addiction, drug trafficking, prostitution, poverty, hunger and more rob these students of the abundant life that God has waiting!

In July, we began the legal process to form an NGO in Honduras and begin the paperwork for the school.   God willing, in February of 2014, the inaugural class of 40-50 7th graders will begin school with a future and a hope.

We will begin the fence surrounding the property next, along with the Waits’ house which is right next door to the school.    This first classroom, which is under construction, will serve as storage for future building and eventually windows, chalkboards, desks & chairs will be added to finish it out.

Our dreams include providing the students with 2 meals each day.   Hunger keeps a student from performing to potential.  We want to make sure the students are completely prepare for a full-day education experience that will require more from them than a traditional public school education.

Specific prayer requests:

*Honduran Director for the school – someone with innovation and vision (will hire in 2013)

*For future teachers & students

*Funding for 2 meals per day for 40-50 students -$500 per month (2013)

*Funding for additional classrooms – $6,000 per classroom (2012 & 2013)

*Sponsors for 40-50 students – $50 per month (2013)
