Félix began his journey with us in 7th grade at Abundant Life Institute (Instituto Vida Abundante – IVA). After graduating from our Accounting and Finance career track in 2023, he went on to study Public Accounting at one of the top universities in Honduras through support from ourBig Dreams College Scholarship Program, made possible by his IVA student sponsors, Phil & Becky Butler.
The transition to university life is a major change for many of our graduates as they leave La Moskitia for the first time, adapting to a completely new environment and culture in interior Honduras. Félix faced these challenges head on, and we are so proud of the strong and committed leader he has grown to be.
Today, Félix serves asPresident of the Asla Wapaia Miskitu Indian Student Organization, representing the Miskitu ethnic group at his university.
In addition, Félix is currently leading a Miskitu language workshop at the university’s request for medical students on campus, working alongside several other IVA graduates. Their goal is to help future doctors better communicate with patients from La Moskitia – especially older adults who often do not speak Spanish fluently. This initiative aims to promote more respectful, compassionate, and culturally sensitive care. As part of this effort, Félix has been participating in training sessions and developing course materials as an instructor.

In reflecting on his academic journey, Felix shares:
– Felix
“For a child, having the opportunity to study is a great blessing. In primary school, there are not many difficulties, but as students move past 6th grade, the academic level increases, and so do the costs and barriers.
A child’s first support system is their family, but when a third person or group comes alongside to help make their dreams possible, it is truly a blessing. That child grows up differently, understanding that they have a community that believes in them and their potential – that they have something to offer the world. Supporting a student be able to continue their education is a gift that truly transforms their future reality. It did for me.”
We are incredibly proud of Felix and all he is accomplishing in his university journey, and we wish him great success as he begins teaching Miskitu language classes.
Felix is a remarkable young leader, proudly representing La Moskitia in Honduras’ capitol, overcoming challenges and demonstrating deep love and courage for his culture and his people.
We still remember the first day Felix walked through the doors of our school… and today, we see a young man who is making his dreams come true and making a difference as a shining light. ✨
Thank you for being a part of his story.
